Charles M. Swoboda Charles M. Swoboda, Eng '89, was elected to the Marquette University Board of Trustees in 2004.

He is chairman and chief executive officer of Cree Inc., a semiconductor company headquartered in Durham, North Carolina's Research Triangle Park.

Cree employs more than 2,800 employees worldwide with annual revenues of approximately $500 million and market capitalization of approximately $2.2 billion. Cree was recognized by Forbes as one of the 200 Best Small Companies for 2004 and by North Carolina Business Magazine as North Carolina's High Tech Company of the Year in 2003.

Chuck joined Cree in 1993 and has served as chairman since 2005, as chief executive officer since 2001, and as a member of the board of directors since 2000.

He received the Spirit of Marquette Award in 2004 and is a member of the Marquette University 1881 Society.
