The College of Education also directly serves members of the Milwaukee community through the following organizations:
Education Resource Center (ERC)
The ERC is designed to allow faculty, students and members of the larger Marquette University and Milwaukee communities access to the many teaching resources available in print and electronic formats.
Hartman Literacy and Learning Center
The Hartman Literacy and Learning Center is a teaching, research and service site that houses the Family Literacy Project. The Family Literacy Project is designed to improve the quality of literacy instruction provided by teachers and the literacy acquisition of urban children. Undergraduate teachers-in–training serve as tutors for children from inner-city Milwaukee schools. Faculty review lesson plans and supervise the tutoring sessions. Research examines factors that relate to growth in children’s reading abilities.
Krueger Parent and Child Center
Established in 1986 under the auspices of the College of Education, the Parenting Center’s primary mission is to better understand and educate parents with young children. One major activity and service of the center is the STAR Parenting Program, a psycho-educational curriculum developed specifically for parents of 1 to 5 year old children with challenging behaviors.
Teachers for Social Justice
Teachers for Social Justice, a student organization at Marquette, exists to promote social justice within schools and to support future teachers' professional development. The group sponsors educational programs both on campus and in the larger community.
