High marks...
- According to the 2006 National Survey of Student Engagement, 53 percent of freshmen and 80 percent of the senior respondents participated in community service or volunteer work while at Marquette. The senior percentage is significantly higher than the Jesuit cohort, doctoral-extensive and overall national percentages.
So they tell us...
- About 85 percent of the graduating seniors (during the last three years) reported that they have been involved in service at least once a year during their tenure at Marquette.
- In 2006, 90 percent of freshmen indicated that the chances are very good they will participate in volunteer work or community service while at Marquette, compared with 52 percent in 2004 (New Student Survey, 2006).
- In 2004, 91.9 percent of freshmen volunteered while in high school, compared with 86.9 percent in 1996 (Cooperative Institutional Research Program, 1996 and 2004).
Serving to learn, learning to serve
- Since its inception, the Service Learning Program has grown from 10 courses and 160 students to 60 to 70 courses and 900 to 1200 students each semester.
- According to the 2007 Senior Survey, 57% of seniors had completed one or more service learning courses for credit during their time at MU and 15% had completed three or more SL courses.
