Training and Education
All human subjects researchers must undergo education about human subject protections as a requirement of Marquette University’s Federalwide Assurance for the Protections of Human Subjects filed with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
The IRB training course "Protecting Human Research Participants," sponsored by the NIH Office of Extramural Research, is required whether your protocol
is exempt, expedited or full review. This training tutorial should take
approximately
2 hours to complete.
Once you have completed this training, you must submit
a copy of your training certificate to the
ORC. The ORC keeps your training record on file; therefore resubmission for subsequent protocols is not required. This training requirement applies to Marquette University faculty and student researchers.
NOTE:
In July 2008, the IRB decided that approval of human subjects research protocols will not be granted until all Marquette human subjects researchers listed in that protocol complete NIH training, and certificates of completion have been filed with the Office of Research Compliance. This applies to new submittals at time of initial approval, and existing protocols at their continuing review, 3-year review, or review of a modification.
