Major Cary Metz

Executive Officer & Assistant Professor of Military Science


Major Metz entered the military in 1992 as a 91B, Combat Medic.  In 1998, Major Metz graduated from Officer Candidate School.

Since entering the service, Major Metz has held many leadership positions.  His positions have included Squad Leader, Section Sergeant, Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Commander for Headquarters & Headquarters Battery, 69th ADA BDE (1st Infantry Division) at Giebelstadt, Germany.

His assignments have included one at Fort Benning, GA, one at Camp Carroll, Korea, one at Fort Lee, VA, one at Fort Campbell, KY, and three in Germany.  He deployed to Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

His military education has included Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Officer Candidate School, Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic Course, CAS3, Infantry Officer Advance Course, Mechanized Leaders Course, Strategic Deployability School, NBC Officer Course, Airborne and Air Assault Schools.

His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science and Health Education from the University of Minnesota.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Army Commendation Medal (4OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal (with Bronze Star), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with the numeral 2), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, U.S. Army Airborne and Air Assault Badges.

He is married to the former Kimberly A. Deutsch of Beardsley, MN.  They have three children:  Bryce, 17, Tyler, 14, and Brooke, 4.
