Lieutenant Colonel Miller
Assistant Professor of Military Science & Leadership

Lieutenant Colonel Jim Miller was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on 10 April 1942.  He was raised in Pickett, Wisconsin on a farm.  He graduated from Ripon High School in 1960.

LTC Miller enlisted in the Wisconsin Army National Guard in October 1960 and completed Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training and Basic Unit Training as an Infantry Rifleman.  He progressed thru the ranks and was promoted to Rifle Platoon Sergeant in December of 1966.

In 1968 he was commissioned after attending
State Officer Candidate School and was assigned
as a Rifle Platoon leader for Company C, 2-127 Infantry, 32nd Brigade, Wisconsin National Guard.  In 1971, he was named commander of Company A, 2-127 Infantry.  He completed the Infantry Officer Advanced Course in 1974, and the Command and General Staff College in 1979.

In 1980, LTC Miller was assigned as the Staff Training Officer of the 127 Infantry Battalion.  He later served as Assistant Staff Training Officer, 32nd Brigade (Mechanized) and Assistant Staff Training Officer for the State Headquarters, Wisconsin Army National Guard.  He was assigned as Staff Training Officer of the Wisconsin Military Academy in 1987.  He completed his B.S. Degree in Business Administration in 1990.  In 1991, he was assigned as Staff Training Officer of the 64th Troop Command.

LTC Miller retired in 2002, completing 28 years of Commissioned Service and 13 Years enlisted service

LTC Miller’s awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with Two Silver Oak Leaf Clusters, Wisconsin National Guard Emergency Service Ribbon, and the Wisconsin National Guard Berlin Crisis Ribbon

In his civilian career, LTC Miller worked 38 years for the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation.  He worked in the electric department for 22 years and was promoted to Gas and Electric Supervisor in 1986.  He served as District Manager the last nine years in Chilton, Wisconsin where he and his wife, Judy reside.

LTC Miller was hired on February 2004 by ComTek as an ROTC Assistant Professor of Military Science.  He was assigned as executive officer at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

LTC Miller accepted a full time position as Assistant Professor of Military Science in the ROTC Department at Marquette University on June 2005.  He presently teaches the MSII Class.

LTC Miller and his wife have two children, Jackie and Jeff and four grandchildren.  His areas of interest include spending time with his family, serving in his church, running, camping, traveling, and training horses.
